About Cable Laying Vessels
A Cable Laying Vessel is a type of sea-going vessel designed to lay underwater communication cable networks. This vessel is specifically built to lay cable lines underwater. However, since cable laying work is not a year-round activity, a Cable Laying Ship is also used as a research ship to monitor various events in the oceanic and sea waters. The main purpose of a cable-laying vessel is to establish communication and networking between offshore structures or between areas and continents of the world by laying underwater cables on the seabed. The cable is usually stowed in a cable carousel, which is a horizontal rotating table. The cable is then unreeled at a speed that matches the cable laying process. Today, the largest cable-layers can stow and lay up to 9,000 tones of cables on board or more. The cable-laying vessel market can solidify its position as a crucial element in building a more robust and interconnected global energy and communication infrastructure.
