About Agricultural Pheromones
Agricultural pheromones are chemicals used for the insects to communicate with each other as it helps in sending a chemical signal to attract the insect mates and warn other predators or find the food for better production. It is available in two types namely releaser and primers which are generally used in detection & monitoring, mass trapping, and mating disruption. Using agricultural pheromones traps can help in monitoring target pests in agriculture and detects possible infestation.

Market Leaders and their expansionary development strategies
On 13th April 2022, Provivi and Syngenta Crop Protection announced the commercialization of ‘Nelvium’, a new mating disruption solution, to effectively and more safely control detrimental pests in rice. This will be the first time this innovation has been applied to rice in Indonesia, the world’s third-largest rice producer and one of the world’s biggest rice consumers.
On 15th March 2021, Natco Pharma Ltd is planning to launch its first Green Label Pheromone product for Effective Management of Pink Bollworm (PBW) in the cotton crop during Kharif 2021. The product will be launched under the brand Natmate PBW. This is the first pheromone-based indigenously manufactured product for the mating disruption that received approval from Central Insecticide Board (CIB).
"The Agency acknowledges that use of certain types of pheromone products presents lower risk than conventional pesticides, and also acknowledges the unique properties of these niche-type products regarding their inherently narrow host range. To promote the use of pheromone products, the Agency initiated a regulatory relief program that allows flexible confidential statements of the formula for pheromone experimental use permits (EUPs) to allow for active ingredient adjustments during the course of experimentation."
