Fluoroelastomers, also called fluorocarbon elastomers, are fluorinated synthetic polymers made by copolymerizing various combinations of vinylidene fluoride (CH2=CF2), hexafluoropropylene (CF2=CFCF3), chlorotrifluoroethylene (CF2=CFCl), and tetrafluoroethylene designed for harsh environments including aggressive chemical and temperature applications. It is a vital polymer that has long-term reliability, with minimum change to the environment, and has specifically designed to be highly resistant to elevated temperatures – 204°C continuous and 300°C intermittent and aggressive chemical changes. It is primarily used in seals and other fabricated parts to provide barriers against numerous types of fluids under severe service conditions.
