Metallic leather, also known as metallised leather, is leather that has a metallic appearance. Metallic effects are typically found only on smooth leather. Metallic effects were used on Porsche car seats. Metallic leathers were also commonly used in vintage American automobiles. Metallic effects are commonly used in leather shoes, clothing, and bags for fashion purposes. Some leather only has a metallic appearance. There is a base color without a metallic effect on these leathers, which is later covered with a top coat (clear lacquer) and a metallic effect. Such leathers have only a metallic shimmer and are typically found in the shoe, bag, or clothing industries. However, metallic effects can appear on car leathers on occasion.
