Scope of the Study
Creosote oil is a brownish oil with a phenolic odor obtained from the distillation of coal tar. It contains cresol and other phenolic compounds with approximately 12 to 14% anthracene. It soluble in ethanol, benzene, toluene and insoluble in water. It can be burned as a fuel or used to make wooden ties. It is commonly used as expectorant for the treatment of acute respiratory tract infections. There are three sources of the creosote oil including wood tar creosote, coal tar creosote and creosote bush.
