What is Video Cystoscopes?
Video Cystoscopy is an endoscopy of the urinary bladder performed through the urethra. A cystoscope is used for the procedure. The urethra is a tube that connects the bladder to the rest of the bloodstream. The lenses on a video cystoscope are similar to those on a telescope or microscope. These lenses allow the doctor to see the inner surfaces of the urinary tract. Some cystoscopes employ optical fibers (flexible glass fibers) to transmit an image from the instrument's tip to a viewing piece at the other end. Video Cystoscopes range in size from pediatric to adult, from the thickness of a pencil to about 9 mm, and have a light at the tip. Many cystoscopes include additional tubes for guiding other instruments used in surgical procedures to treat urinary problems.
