High-density polyethylene is a thermoplastic polymer produced from the monomer ethylene. It is also known as polyethylene high-density (PEHD). It is also sometimes called alkathene or polythene when used for HDPE pipes. It is widely used in the production of corrosion resistant pigging, plastic bottles, plastic lumber, and geomembranes. It is easily recyclable and has the number 2 as its resin identification code.
