Global Paper Pigments Market Overview:
Paper pigments, fine, inorganic elements that are added to color, fill, or coat paper. Pigments like titanium dioxide and calcium carbonate are used as fillers & coatings in papermaking. These paper pigments are applied together with a binder, which supports in adhesion of pigment particles to paper fibers. These can be mainly divided into black, white, & colored pigments, and are available in a variety of types. Paper is mainly coated to enhance its printability. Pigmentation of paper coatings is only one of the limited interlocking variables which impact the last print quality. Growing demand for paper in the packaging industry is one key driver contributing to the growth of global paper pigments market. On May 2, 2018, BASF and Solenis had signed an agreement to join forces by combining BASF’s paper wet-end and water chemicals business with Solenis. This agreement is expected to deliver additional value for paper and water treatment customers. The goal is to create a customer-focused global solutions provider for the industry. For the paper industry, the product portfolio of the combined enterprise will cover the entire range of functional and process wet-end chemicals, solutions for the water cycle for paper mills, as well as comprehensive service capabilities.
In October, 2018, Omya International AG, based in neighboring Oftringen announced that, the company will move R&D activities to the Egerkingen site, following Galderma-Spirig’s decision to close their Egerkingen site in September 2017. Omya has been acquiring the property from Galderma-Spirig’s parent company, Nestlé Skin Health. In adding to acquiring the property, with all buildings & facilities, Omya aims to acquire Spirig Pharma's Cosmospheres business unit, which develops as well as manufactures high-quality cellulose-based additives for the cosmetics industry. This expansion strategy will help the company to stay competitive in the paper pigments market.
