The main ingredients in Irish whiskey are kiln-dried, water, raw and malted barley (sprouted or germinated barley) and it is produced by 'vatting' which is kept in the cask for at least three years. Traditionally there are five steps to the process - malting, mashing, fermentation, distillation and maturation.
