A fluoropolymer is a polymer with a carbon backbone and fluorine that make strong carbon-fluoride bonds. The atomic structure of carbon and fluorine and their covalent bonding in certain chemical compounds determine the properties of fluoropolymers. Their distinguishing qualities of heat and chemical resistance are due to the carbon-fluoride bonding. It is durable in corrosive and high-temperature conditions and meets particular standards for severe environments. They are usually inert and chemically stable.
