Market Snapshot:
Polyetherimide (PEI) is a polymer containing cyclic imide, especially a five-membered ring, and ether units in the backbone. Polyetherimide is an amorphous polymer that ranges from amber to transparent in color. Unlike other polymers, the surface of polyetherimide PEI can be modified to either hydrophilic or hydrophobic characteristics, enabling its extensive use in membrane applications due to its separation, permeance, blood, and tissue biocompatibility properties. Typical applications include membranes for biohybrid applications. Other medical applications of PEI are surgical instrument handles and enclosures, non-implant prostheses, etc.
