About Hybrid Seeds
Hybrid seeds are created by cross-pollinating two different strains of plant. For example, if one type of large cabbage is susceptible to disease, and another is disease-resistant but smaller, commercial agriculture may cross-pollinate to produce seeds which yield larger cabbages with greater disease resistance. Further, hybrid seeds are scientifically produced, either to sell to customers or to grow commercial crops. In December 2021, Agro-chemical firm Crystal Crop Protection Ltd (CCPL) on Thursday said it has completed the acquisition of four hybrid seeds — cotton, mustard, pearl millet and grain sorghum — from global life sciences firm Bayer in India. The seed business acquired by CCPL represents a very small portion of Bayer’s Indian and global business portfolio.
January 28, 2021: Bayer’s Vegetable Seeds business is hosting its fourth, annual edition of ‘Pragati Diwas’ at its mega breeding station in Chikaballapur, near Bengaluru. The event which starts today, will showcase over 120 high-yielding hybrid seeds across 14 fruit and vegetable crops, including tomatoes, hot pepper, watermelon, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber and beans. It will also enable knowledge transfer to farmers on good agricultural practices for vegetable cultivation.
